Before you begin.
Should the reference show a person?
It can. A clean garment or mannequin photo keeps the request about the clothes; if your reference shows someone else, write that only the outfit should be used.
Does this predict size or fit?
No. You get a visual interpretation of the outfit, not a measurement, a size recommendation or a promise of how the garment will fit.
What kind of source works best?
A well-lit shot where the whole outfit is visible. Simple movement, with hands that do not cover the clothes, makes the change easier to describe.
